VMware vCenter Server virtual Appliance is a pre-build management software loaded on SUSE Linux OS. The vCenter OVA/OVF consisting of vCenter Server, inventory services, in build database, vSphere web services etc.. , This appliance is very easy to deploy and configure than windows based vCenter Server and most of the times I prefer to use vCenter Virtual Appliance until unless having any specific business reason, even the time taken for setup and configuration of appliance is very less. And even though virtual Machine has SUSE Linux OS You need not have any Linux or Unix background for configuration, because virtual Appliance comes with nice GUI Management mode where you can configure all you need for the vCenter Setup. This post going to explain about how to Deploy and configure the vCenter Server virtual Appliance 5.5
- VMware vCenter Server Appliance 5.5 OVA or OVF file (Download hear)
- ESXi Server
- Management IP Address details
- DNS Server Details
Step By Step Deployment Procedure:
Step-1: Download VMware vCenter Server Virtual Appliance 5.5
Step-2: Login to ESXi Server
Step-3: Go to file and Click on Deploy OVF Template
Step-4: On the wizard Select Click on Browse button and select vCenter Server Virtual Appliance and Click Next
Step-5: Next you will find OVF Template details (version/vendor/Size/desc/etc..) Just Click Next
Step-6: Next Data store Leave default and Click Next
Step-7: Provide the Name and Location and Click Next
Step-8: Map the Source Network to Destination Network and Click Next
Step-9: Properties page Provide the details listed in the wizard
- Default Gateway
- Network 1 IP Address
- Network 1 Netmask
Step-10: Click on Finish ( you can enable the Power on virtual Machine after deployment if you would like to do so)
Wait for movement to complete the Deployment process once Deployment completed successfully you will see the virtual machine created with a name that you have mention Deployment.
Step-11: if you are not selected the Power on virtual Machine after deployment, select virtual machine and power on
Step-12: Open the Virtual Machine Console you will see OS is getting loaded, during this process, all the details provided in deployment wizard will be automatically configured for you, you need not configure anything. Once the virtual machine guest OS up you will see the screen like this.
Step-13: one the Screen you will find some this like this (Open a browser to https://192.168.1.22:5480
Step-14: Open web browser enter the IP address what you see on your screen and it will prompt for your id and password enter the user id password. The default user id and password are as follows:
Step-15: When you log into the first time you will be prompted with vCenter Server setup wizard. Select the Accept License agreement and Click on Next.
Step-16: Next screen is Configuration options you will find multiple, this case we will go with Configuration with Defaults and Click Next.
Step-17: Next screen directly jumps to Review summary since we have selected Configuration as Defaults. and Click on Start to begin the Deployment. In this process, VMware has done an amazing job on automating complete components installation and configuration waits for movement complete the process.
Step-18: Once Successfully Completed the configuration process, you will land on to the vCenter Summary page as shown in the below screen.
Congratulations! You have successfully Deployed the vCenter Server Appliance
