This article we are going to learn how to configure QuadStor VTL to media Server using Software iSCSI, this might not be ideal for the product environment as far as performance and reliability concern, however, this can be used for practice purpose or not critical data backups. usually for the production environment is recommended use hardware iSCSI for good performance and reliability. Follow the below step by step process to configure QuadStor VTL using Microsoft Software iSCSI.
Step by Step Process
STEP-1: Login to Media Server (Usually where you have the Backup Server Software is installed is called Media Server)
STEP-2: Go to Services and start the Microsoft iSCSI Services
STEP-3: Go to Windows search and type “iSCSI” in the results you will find iSCSI initiator open the iSCSI Initiator.
STEP-4: New wizard will open iSCSI Initiator Properties Enter the iSCSI Target IP Address in this case you have to enter the QuadStor VTL IP Address and Click on Quick Connect.
STEP-5: Quick connect option will talk to iSCSI Target and Discover the list of Target Devices as shown in the screen, select the Tape Drives and Tape Library Targets and click on connect to establish the communication. You will notice the status in the below screen as connected click on Done to close the Quick connect wizard
STEP-6: in the iSCSI Initiator Properties wizard you will find the list of Targets, just click on okay to apply the configuration and close the wizard.
STEP-7: Go back to Device management and find out for the tape drives and tape library make sure it has to be listed int the Devices Management console.
That’st it, it’s very simple right. We have successfully configured the QuadStor VTL to Media Server using Microsoft Software iSCSI initiator.
